From the spring of 2004 to the fall of 2009, the Coalition was pleased to be a partner in the nationwide campaign to recruit adoptive and foster families. Called “Answering the Call,” the campaign uses print, radio, television, and internet public service announcements (PSAs) with the themes, “You don’t have to be a hero to be a hero to a child,” and “You don’t have to be perfect to be a perfect parent.” The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Administration for Children and Families in collaboration with the The Adoption Exchange Association, The Collaboration to AdoptUsKids and the Ad Council, developed the public service advertising campaign and prospective families calling the nationwide toll free number were contacted by a state specific Recruitment Response Team.
The Coalition served as the Recruitment Response Team for Upstate New York in partnership with the New York State Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS) and the New York City Administration for Children’s Services, which served as the Response Team for the five boroughs of New York City. Both the Coalition and ACS responded to inquiries from prospective adoptive and foster families, assisted and encouraged families to obtain homestudies, and connected them to local parent support networks. Though the AUsK Recruitment Response teams were discontinued in September, 2009; the Coalition was pleased to be a part of this important project, and contributed to the recruitment and retention of hundreds and hundreds of New York State adoptive and foster families during the six years of project services.
