Adoptee Journeys

Are you an adult adoptee interested in the life journey of adoption? Then Adoptee Journeys is for you.

The fall session will focus on the topic of divided loyalties. The process of search and reunion almost demands that as adoptees we confront a range of emotions – which could range from gratitude to resentment. We are here because we were given life and reared to adulthood by different families. Where do our loyalties lie? Register now!

New this session! Adoptee Journeys will take place through a virtual meeting format so you can attend the fall session no matter where you are. The sessions will be offered through Google Hangouts, which can be used on your computer or any mobile device. All you need is a camera and a microphone/speaker. To learn more about how to install and use Google Hangouts please click here.

Session 1, October 5:

Session one will focus on our two sets of parents. Adoptees often express feeling torn, guilty or in the middle. As adoptees how do we incorporate both families into our lives, meet expectations, show respect and value relationships while still being true to ourselves?

Session 2, October 12:

In this session, we will explore sibling relationships. Sometimes our need to share our journey may not be well received by our siblings in our adoptive families who have chosen not to search or might feel threatened by our actions. How will we be, or are being received by birth siblings? What kind of relationships do we want with them?

Session 3, October 19:

In session three, we will consider the impact on our home life. How does our need for connection to adoptive family and birth family affect our relationship with a nuclear family? What are some of the stresses and strains that we, and our partners and children may be feeling? For singles, how does this affect our friendships or significant others that are so important?

Session 4, October 26:

The final session will be an opportunity to make a thoughtful plan for action. Each will make his or her own personal plan for being true to oneself while “honoring” those we love. What do we need, and how do we ask for it?  How will we say it?

The series will take place online so pre-registration is needed. Once you have registered a link to the virtual site will be emailed to you.
