In the book Beneath the Mask: Understanding Adopted Teens, Debbie Riley describes the challenges that teens may face around six themes including identity, missing/difficult information, loyalty, reason for adoption, difference, and permanence, known as the “six spots where teens can get stuck.” Parents can also get “stuck” around these same themes, limiting their ability to assist their teens.
