AFCTN is proud to host a supervision day with Dr. Jonathan Baylin. This event it open to practitioners/clinicians who have already had some formal training in AEDP, EFT, DDP or other attachment focused or trauma focused training.
Limited space available. 6.5 CE credits available. Link below.
Jonathan Baylin, PhD will be presenting a brain-based model of therapeutic processes applicable for interpersonal and intrapersonal treatment contexts. The model would lays the groundwork for discussing how different therapeutic processes can promote neural integration, including “top down, bottom up, left-right, back-front” levels of integration. The core of this model focuses on relational processes and especially how nonverbal communication contributes to trust building and safe engagement to lay the foundation for “higher level” therapeutic work. The model emphasizes the importance of developing a “social buffering” relationship with clients that can help them regulate affect and experience the relational safety required to “awaken” the higher, prefrontal brain regions necessary to work on change. The model also includes some use of brain-based knowledge for psycho-education and reappraisal of clients’ problems, helping to re-frame the therapeutic work and provide a road map for change.
Using this brain-based model, we could then look together at cases and discuss them by applying concepts from the model. The goal would be to help therapists think in brain-based terms about the work and to use the brain-based model as a framework for treatment planning.
