AGAPE Long Island serves families in Nassau and Suffolk counties who have adopted a child or those that have become guardians of a relative’s child. By providing supportive services and connecting families to resources such as parent trainings, support groups for both parents and youths, peer mentoring, navigation for cross-system needs, therapeutic services referrals, counseling, or other supports to help families address issues as they arise, the AGAPE program helps post-adoptive and post-guardianship families through the unique challenges they face following an adoption or guardianship.
AGAPE’s services are provided free of charge. It is open for families who have adopted through foster care or private adoption whether domestically or internationally. Services are also available for those caring for a child through G docket guardianship. Whether it’s a simple question, a need for more training or a more challenging problem, we are here to guide you.

Adoptive Parents Committee – Long Island Chapter

Services Provided: Local chapter of large parent group serving NYC, LI, Hudson Region, and NJ. Monthly meetings feature guest speakers, panels and discussion groups. Pre and post adoption workshops available to members. Each chapter has a bookstore which carries an array of books and other materials covering topics on adoption and parenting. Families for Russian and Ukranian Adoption (FRUA) Northeast

Services Provided: Contact infromation for Northeast Region Chapter of Families for Russian and Ukrainian Adoption. FRUA focuses on international adoption support resources for families completed through adoption in Eastern European and Central Asian countries. FRUA offers families hope, help and community by providing connection, education, resources, and advocacy, and works to improve the lives of orphaned children. Families With Children from China of Greater NY

Services Provided: FCC is a non-profit organization supporting families who have adopted daughters and sons from China. Our members include adoptive parents, adoptees and their siblings and other relatives, as well as friends and professionals with connections to adoption. Your annual membership gives you members-only access to resources and information about a multitude of adoption, parenthood and China topics. As a member you will receive regular e-mail updates announcing the latest events, articles and news of interest to our families.To join, first select a membership level and then fill out the form asking for basic information for you and if applicable, your partner. Hispanic Counseling Center

Services Provided: HCC provides mental health and substance abuse treatment, prevention, education, and support services for families and children in an entirely bilingual, bicultural setting serving Long Island. HCC is a multi-service agency that serves all members of the family in a single point of entry. Services may include individual, group, and family counseling, family mediation, case management, home visits, advocacy, educational workshops, parent support groups and teen drop in center. All services are available to the Hispanic community and all individuals and families without regard to race, religion, ethnicity, or economic status. Long Island Adoption Support Group

Services Provided: Peer support groups for pre-adoptive families, ongoing post adoption  group support and kids groups. Meetings are held in various locations on Long Island


Long Island DDSO – OPWDD

Services Provided: Family Support Services Coordinators are available at each of OPWDD’s regional Developmental Disabilities Services Offices (DDSOs) to help families access Family Support Services. Family Support Services can help in times of crisis when a family member or loved one becomes ill, or when things get difficult at home for other reasons. Support services may include: information and referral, family and individual counseling, recreation, after-school programs, support groups, transportation and specialized equipment and home modifications.


Long Island Families Together (LIFT) Adoption Support Group

Services Provided: If you are parenting a child who joined your family through a domestic or international adoption, or who came into your care through the foster care system, then this group is for you! Join us as we discuss topics relating to the unique needs of our children. We will learn therapeutic parenting techniques, and offer practical advice and support to help you and your family be the best you can be! All meetings are typically held on the first Thursday of each month, 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm, at the LIFT offices. Youth Support group starting summer of 2014. You Gotta Believe! Parent Support Groups

Services Provided: Agency facilitated support and discussion groups open to all families in all five boroughs and Long island.
