Long Island Adoptive Families Support Group Monthly Meetings

Adoption can be a stressful process, but meeting and talking with others in the same situation really helps.   We are just a group of people sitting in someones living room on a Friday night after a long week of work with friends who understand you in every way!

These meetings are for all members (pre and post/adoptive or foster).

Maybe you are just beginning to explore the possibility of adopting. Maybe you feel sure that adoption is right for your family. Maybe you have already created a family through adoption. Whatever your situation, it can get overwhelming and sometimes confusing.  There are so many aspects to the adoption, and it can be helpful to learn from those who have gone through the process before.

Here are some of the topics we discuss at our meetings to help you make more of an educated and heartfelt decision that is right for your family.

  • Agency vs. Private adoption
  • Domestic Agency vs. International Agency
  • What are home studies and how do you prepare
  • Knowing adoption law
  • Learning about the myths of adoption
  • Learning about special needs adoption
  • Foster care

Our meetings focus on a topic for the first hour and then we break into mix and mingle groups for personal chats and support.
