The Coalition’s Reframing Parenting Workshops are Back!

Reframing Parenting is a training curriculum based on Foundations for Attachment Training Resource by Kim Golding, whose work is turn based on that of Dan Hughes.

This curriculum has been adopted and modified by the Adoptive and Foster Family Coalition of New York to help foster, adoptive and kinship parents nurture attachments with their child. It is designed specifically for those caring for children whose capacity to emotionally connect has been compromised as a result of attachment problems, trauma, and loss or separation.

This parent friendly workshop series is formed by attachment theory and Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy (DDP) and consists of three core modules:

  • Understanding Challenges of Parenting
  • Therapeutic Parenting
  • Looking After Self

Training Customized for New York Families

In adapting this curriculum, the Coalition has made it most relevant for parents working within New York’s child welfare system. The Coalition has also taken steps to ensure that the training can reach and speak to parents who feel they have tried everything and/or who are struggling to find a better way to connect with and effectively parent their child – and do so in a way that has lasting impact and that can be implemented on a day-in, day basis within a family. The training is structured to provide ample time for connection between participants with the ancillary goal of having peer support develop out of participation in the training.

Virtual or In Person Educational Workshop Series for Parents

Reframing Parenting was constructed as an 18-hour training delivered in six three-hour face to face workshop sessions. In response to the COVID-19 crisis, the Coalition has augmented the workshop delivery to best fit the needs of online virtual classes. As we bring back the IN PERSON trainings, we will continue to offer virtual delivery as well!

  • We are offering the VIRTUAL Reframing Parenting Series in the AFFCNY Network through twelve separate evening sessions on Wednesday nights.
  • STARTING BACK SPRING OF 2023! IN PERSON Reframing Parenting Series will be at the YWCA – 14 Clayton Ave, Cortland, NY 13045 – through six separate Saturday morning sessions.

We are offering two different schedules for the Spring of 2023. Your choice of VIRTUALLY on 12 Wednesdays or IN PERSON on 6 Saturdays in Cortland!
