Experts In Their Own Lives: What the Research on Adult Adoptees Can Teach Us

Most of the research on adoption is focused on children and adolescents. In this presentation, Dr. JaeRan Kim will share some of the newest research that is being done on adult adoptees and what these studies can teach us about how to best support adoptees throughout their lives. JaeRan will also share what she has learned about the needs of adoptees from her 30+ years of being in the adult adoptee community.

About JaeRan Kim

Born in South Korea and adopted to the United States in 1971 at age three, JaeRan Kim has over 15 years of experience working with foster and adopted children and families.  She has worked in foster care/adoption (both public and private), with at-risk young moms, and with adults with disabilities in residential care. JeaRan has developed numerous training curricula for child welfare professionals. She also authors Harlow’s Monkey.

Jae Ran completed her  PhD in Social Work at the University of Minnesota and was a Project Coordinator at the Center for Advanced Studies in Child Welfare at the School of Social Work.
