Forestdale, Inc.

Services Provided: Forestdale is a social service and child welfare organization headquartered in Forest Hills, Queens, and serves clients throughout Queens and Brooklyn. Our mission is “to ensure that children and families have the assets needed to thrive and live independently.”

Forestdale actively seeks loving, stable homes in Queens and Brooklyn for children in foster care. Potential foster parents receive orientation and initial training (30-hour; 10-week MAPP class) before a child is placed in their home. Forestdale offers ongoing training on many topics related to parenting children and teens in foster care. Foster parents receive continuing support from the caseworker assigned to the children in their care and have access to a network of fellow foster parents. Our staff is deeply invested in the success of foster parents. A loving home is critical to ensuring that the children thrive. As additional parenting support, foster youths attend group workshops, receive referral and career development services, and attend events throughout the year that help teens develop independent life skills and healthy habits.

HeartShare St Vincent’s Services (HSVS)

Services Provided: HeartShare St. Vincent’s Services’ (HSVS) Foster Care and Adoption Services ensures that children in foster care experience a seamless transition to a safe, stable and loving home, whether that means their reunification with biological parents or an adoption. Thanks to donor support, we are able to offer extensive adoption and post-adoption services to the families and communities we serve. We also provide intensive case management for our older adolescents and their foster and natural families to prepare them for aging out of care and coping with the dynamics of the transition to adulthood. Services Provided: Inwood House created New York City’s first Mother and Child foster care program in 1968. Inwood House is committed to providing specialized training and comprehensive services to prospective resource parents. Leake and Watts Services, Inc

Services Provided: Family Foster Care programs provide safe and nurturing homes to over 400 vulnerable children and teens in the Bronx as well as in other New York City boroughs, Westchester County and upstate New York.  Our services are dedicated to the growing and changing needs of the children in our care as well as those who support them and include Family Foster Care, Specialized Medical Family Foster Care, Whenever possible, children are placed with relatives or close family connections such as godparents (Kinship Foster Care) to keep children connected to their families and reduce the trauma of sudden placement away from birth parents.  Therapeutic Family Foster Care is a family-focused, community-based alternative to residential and institutional care for children who have serious emotional and/or behavioral conditions. Foster parents are given comprehensive training on behavior modification techniques as well as access to a 24-hour support team that assists with crisis intervention.

Little Flower Children and Family Services of New York

MercyFirst

Services Provided: MercyFirst offers community based foster care services in Brooklyn and Queens to over 600 children in foster homes that it recruits, trains, licenses and monitors. In addition, MercyFirst provides adoption, home finding, independent living for teens, and ancillary services as housing advocacy, education and training for youth and birth parents. MercyFirst also offers a Therapeutic Foster Boarding Home (TFBH) Program for seriously emotionally disturbed children in foster care. Prospective foster parents are required to take expanded MAPP training as part of the process of becoming certified foster parents. This process also includes the agency completing a Home Study. The agency supports an active Foster Parent Association that provides peer support as well as a Foster parent Advocate on staff to assist with issues that arise.

Ohel Children’s Home and Family Services

Services Provided:The Ohel Milton Schulman Foster Care Program provides a range of continual support services to the foster child and foster parents from birth to age 21. Services include Case Management, Educational Services, Psychological Services, Medical Care and Homefinding

Seamen’s Society for Children and Families

Sheltering Arms NY

Services Provided: (Formerly Episcopal Social Services) To become a Sheltering Arms foster parent or to adopt a child, please contact our home-finding staff at the number below and/or complete our online parent interest form. There is an urgent need for foster homes that can accommodate sibling groups of three or more, homes for teenage mothers with their own infants, and homes for children with emotional and physical needs that require special care. The LGBT Community Center Foster Care Project

Services Provided: The LGBT Foster Care Project is a collaborative project between The Center and the New York City Administration for Children’s Services (ACS) to increase the number of homes for all youth, with a special emphasis on LGBTQ youth. Provides support and networking opportunities at The Center, and hosts weekly trainings for current and prospective foster and adoptive parents in collaboration with You Gotta Believe! (YGB).  The project also provides training for ACS provider agency staff and support and advocacy opportunities for LGBT youth with foster care experience.

The New York Foundling

Services Provided: The New York Foundling conducts orientations for families who want to learn more about becoming foster parents. We hold orientations in all five boroughs; see website calendar for upcoming sessions. Orientations are approximately 2 hours in length; light refreshments will be served.
