A best practice training for adoptive parents, foster parents, relative caregivers, extended family members, child welfare professionals, teachers, childcare staff .

For too long, we have been told that our children suffer from a variety of three or four-letter disorders without really exploring how these disorders came to be.  Trauma is the root of many of the behaviors are children exhibit.  The neglect, instability, loss and separation that many of our children have experienced leads to trauma.

In this workshop, we will walk participants through trauma, what it is, how it impacts the brain, how our children’s trauma impacts us and what we can do.  We will also use the Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) questionnaire to discuss trauma, blocked care, blocked trust and how to build resiliency in children and parents. The hope is that this program will be helpful for parents who are having parenting challenges and enable them to increase their emotional connection with their children.

This workshop can be used as a precursor to the Reframing Parenting training.

This workshop can be offered in tandem with Resiliency: What It Is and How To Build It

  • Length: 90 to 120 minutes
  • Subject Areas: Trauma and Resiliency
  • Facilitate by: Coalition staff
