A best practice training for foster and kinship caregivers.

Common sense and experience tells us that foster care often works best for children and adults alike when adults can collaborate and work together.  And yet, our system offers little support for this.

This workshop offers a discussion about the realities of shared parenting, offering tips and examples about how foster parents, birth parents and casework staff can work together.  Knowing that this is topic that scares some, we’ll also talk frankly about the barriers to collaboration, explore and breakdown stereotypes and discuss how collaboration is dependent on the adults involved.  Clips from Foster Parents Speak, the Coalition’s award winning video of foster parents speaking candidly about the challenges and rewards in developing partnerships with birth families, will also be shared and discussed.
