Join Pat O’Brien, MS, LMSW, LTMN – Interim Executive Director at the Adoptive and Foster Family Coalition of New York for the following scheduled training:

Laughter Workshop: Laughing is one of the healthiest things one can do when facing the deep stresses, tensions and pains of everyday life and parenting in particular. This workshop will highlight how one can bring more laughter into both one’s home life and life in general while making the case this is an essential ingredient in preventing parent burnout for those raising even the most difficult of children.

P.A.C.E. Plus-A New Parenting Paradigm: There is a unique and distinct difference between raising a child from birth and raising a child who has suffered from trauma and loss early in life. This workshop will go over why traditional parenting techniques that our birthparents utilized successfully with us, and we successfully utilized with children we gave birth to, often trigger reactions in children we parent who have suffered early childhood trauma and loss. This workshop offers strategies to parents about how to con-nect with children of loss and trauma before we correct the unacceptable behaviors they sometimes bring to their adoptive, foster, and kinship families.

Parents Speak Video Screening with Q & A: Recently re-released on DVD, Foster Parents Speak has been the recipient of numerous awards including, Silver Hugo, INTERCOM/Chicago Film Festival. Parents candidly share real life techniques and strategies for improving communication and cooperation to create partnerships that support children in the foster care system.
