Information and Resources

Foster and Kinship Care Banner

The world of foster care, kinship care and adoption is complex.

Our goal is to provide foster, kinship care and adoptive families in New York State with the information and resources they need to make informed decisions. With an ever growing collection of resources and information, we offer support to families, from those just beginning the process to those who are years in.

 New York Service Directory

Our online Services Directory lists adoption agencies, foster care programs, therapists, support services, parent support groups and post-adoption support centers by county.  Just locate your county and click to see what adoption and foster care services are available in your local area.

New York State Adoption, Foster and Kinship Training and Event Calendar

The Coalition  curates and maintains a state-wide events calendar listing national and local conferences, training opportunities, parent support group meetings, adoptee meet-ups/gatherings, fundraisers, performances  including film screenings, book signings, art, music, plays and events. Events include support for adult adoptees, birth parents, folks formerly in care, foster youth, and post adoption support programs. We encourage others to add their adoption, foster or kinship events as well.

The “Most Important Things” Newsletter

Be Part of the Coalition’s Information Network! Powered by MailChimp, our electronic newsletter goes out to almost 10,000 individuals across the state! We keep it filled with information about what is happening in child welfare in New York, new trends, information, best practices and research. We keep you updated on what’s happening within the Coalition, across the state and out in the world. Joining our email list is free and you may unsubscribe at any time.

Recommended Reads

We offer a virtual library of essential book titles recommended by the Coalition team. The books are all relevant to foster/kinship care/adoptive families and anyone who can benefit from a greater understanding of these families. There are books for all ages and reading levels.  All recommended reading titles are available for purchase from Amazon Associates and a portion of sales benefit the Coalition.

Online Information and Resources

The internet can provide a wealth of information though it’s often hard to know who to trust as a verified source. The Coalition curates and recommends a wide variety of online resources and links.  Including national organizations, New York State specific links and relevant foster/kinship care/adoption blogs. We even have a list just for kids!

Looking for something specific and can’t find what you need? Give us a call on the Coalition’s Helpline at 888.354.1342 or drop us an email at info@affcny.org. We’re happy to help!
