Mapping the Life Course of Adoption Project (MAP): Health, Well-Being, and Adoptee Connections in Adulthood

The Coalition believes in elevating the voices and lived experiences of adult adopted persons. This study is a national adoptee-led and community-engaged project aimed at mapping the life course of adoption in adulthood and the role of adoptee-led groups/connections as a resource for thriving adulthoods.

We find the survey they are conducting to be of vital importance and encourage all adopted adults to take the time to complete the survey.

As per Dr. Hollee McGinnis:

“ADOPTEES 18+ IN THE UNITED STATES (adopted internationally, domestically, or from foster care) Let’s MAP THE LIFE COURSE OF ADOPTION TOGETHER!! I am excited to announce this opportunity for adoptees to engage in a long-term and community-embedded project crafted by adoptees for adoptees. This national adoptee-led and community-engaged project aims to: (1) understand how adoptees are aging, and (2) the nature of adoptee spaces/groups and how they relate to adult well-being.

The initial stage of the project involves an in-depth 60 to 90 online survey to understand the extend to which adoptees experience exposure to traumas in childhood, adult stressors, racism, adoption stigma, current physical health, mental health, adoptive and racial identity, and participation in adoptee spaces/groups. Compensation provided.

As a community-engaged and embedded project, we are looking to collaborate with adoptees and make findings accessible to the adoption community. Learn more, participate, and forward to other adoptees (especially 40+ and those who might not be connected to adoptee spaces)!! Email me hamcginnis@vcu.edu to set up!”
