Barbara is a licensed certified social worker, LCSW. She is a graduate of Fordham University School of Social Work and the NYU Post-Doctoral Training in Marriage and Family Therapy. She has been a therapist in private practice since 1980.
Prior to graduate work at Fordham, Barbara was a professional dancer. Her work with movement and the body lead her to understand the connection between the body and the mind and ultimately into the world of psychoanalysis. Her training spans alternative modalities that include Kinetic Awareness and Bioenergetics to more traditional training in psychoanalytic thinking and social work. At present her work is strongly influenced by the Relational Movement in psychoanalysis and systems theory as it informs couples and family work.
Barbara has presented and spoken on infertility and adoption both nationally and internationally at Division 39, the psychoanalytic division of the American Psychological Association, IARPP, (International Association of Relational Psychotherapy and Psychoanalysis), APC, (Adoptive Parents Committee of New York and New Jersey) and The Connecticut Adoption Network. Her article on adoption, Loss and Resilience Form a Family: A Relational Story of Adoption, was published in Psychoanalytic Perspectives, March 2013 and an upcoming chapter in an anthology about adoption entitled, “It’s Not About You” will be released in the fall of 2016.

Couple and Family Psychoanalysis in San Francisco on February, 8th, 2020.
