The DEIB professional development goals for 2022-2023 are:
1. To recognize, understand and rectify implicit bias in ourselves and others.
2. To understand how racism and social injustice shapes one's identity and impacts on an
individual’s mental health. To understand how racism and social injustice shapes the identity of the family.
3. To gain skills regarding how to engage parents and youth in conversations about racism, classism, ageism, colorism, genderism, LBGTQ+ bias, and social justice while managing divergent perspectives within families, communities and the media.
4. To learn how to provide foster, kinship, and adoptive parents (including resistant families) with real-life tools and support as they raise children of color and as they raise anti-racist children.
5. To learn the cultural history, traditions, and celebrations of marginalized groups (e.g. Kwanzaa, Juneteenth, Chinese New Year, All Saints Day, Pride Month, etc.) so staff can support families in the incorporation of their child’s original heritage into family life.
