Time to get ready to Express Yourself this Fall!

The Fall 2023 Express Yourself Workshop will be happening this October and November. We will be returning Megan Omohundro as the dance facilitator from the spring bringing another two fun filled hip hop movement and dance workshops that will be in-person and virtual (Hybrid). This Fall workshop will be a thrilling experience for youth adoptees with or without dance or movement experience. All you need to bring is your feet, a water bottle, and an enthusiasm to move all over the place. Megan will be sure to bring the beat, and help us all catch and keep it. All while connecting with other adoptees in a safe and creative environment.

Facilitators Mac and Kylie, whom many of our youth know and love, will also be there joining in on the fun. If attending virtually, you’ll sign into zoom and join us in your living room or any space that you can move freely in. We will have Facilitators Ellen and Jade accompanying in the virtual space.

Teaching Artist bio: Megan “Caique” Omohundro is a professional choreographer, martial artist, dancer, and educator with
17 years of experience. She began engaging in dance by learning community styles of movement,
including hip hop, krumping, and step. These styles provided her the opportunity to teach in the 21st
Century Learning Center, tour with “6-Way Street,” and choreograph for Matisyahu’s “Shade from the
Sun.” She eventually learned additional dance modalities, including Modern, West African, and Ballet,
while obtaining her Bachelor of Arts degree from Hollins University in Roanoke, Virginia.

Megan’s professional career includes being a former member of Dunamis Dance Theatre and yearly
guest artist residencies at Virginia Tech, Radford University, and Misch Moves. Her work has received
awards, including 2nd place in the “For the Funky Ones” dance battle and 1st place for her “Run This”
choreography in the Ultimate Stars dance competition. She is one of the five founding members of the
new Ithaca, NY, dance hub 5SISTERS and choreographs for theatrical productions in upstate New York.
Megan’s most notable project to date is Masters of Movement as told by we/us/them. Masters of
Movement (MOM) is a 4 part series featuring four movement and acting professionals as they explore
their connection to self and iconic people of color.

Megan’s passion for the arts coincides with her desire to serve communities through non-profit
organizations. She currently serves on the board of directors for the Community Foundation of
Tompkins County and is a former board member of the Cherry Arts in Ithaca, NY.
She credits her martial arts training with the American Society of Capoeira Arts from Brazil under Mestre
Doutor and her community styles for helping her take care of the individual within a collective.
