A positive sense of identity is crucial to the development of self-esteem and confidence. A healthy sense of identity helps individuals to be more open to people from other backgrounds as they will be less likely to fear differences. Individuals with a healthy sense of identity will, also, be less likely put other people down in order to feel better about themselves.
